Cis-cyclooctene is not likely to be subject to abiotic degradation (hydrolysis or direct photolysis) under environmental conditions since there are no functional groups in the molecular structure that are liable to direct photolysis or hydrolysis. However, its half-life in the atmosphere was calculated to be only 2 hours due photo-sensitized chemical oxidation.
