Description of key information

non explosive

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

- The substance contains only one N-O-bond which might be associated with explosive properties.

- Based on the molecular formula and the molecular weight the oxygen balance was calculated to be -260 which is less than -200.

- Additionally the experimental determination by DSC on substance showed the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500°C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The explosive properties of substance were screened based on a set of criteria for C&L as outline in the section R.7.1.11 of Guidance chapter R.7a of REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006

- Step 1: The substance contains only one N-O-bond which might be associated with explosive properties.

- Step 2: Based on the molecular formula and the molecular weight the oxygen balance was calculated to be -260 which is less than -200.

- Step 3: The experimental determination by DSC on substance showed the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500°C.

The experimental data by DSC indicated that the substance does not have a potential for rapid energy release. Thus it is not to be classified as an explosive material
