Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test item (THPS) was tested on the freshwater alga Selenastrum capricornutum (Pseudokircherella subcapitata) over 72 h according to OECD test Guideline 201.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.652 mg/L

Additional information

The read-across with THPS is considered to be allowed for THPC because the toxicity is triggered by the organic phosphonium cation which is the same for both substances. The influence of the anions (chloride and sulfate) regarding the toxicological behaviour is considered not to be relevant.

Physico chemical parameter (high water solubility, negative logPow) which influence the toxicological and environmental behavior are comparable in case of THPC and THPS.

THPS showed an NOEC of 0.063 mg/L in terms of biomass and growth inhibition, an EC50 of 0.204 mg/L in terms of biomass and an EC50 of 0.652 mg/L in terms of growth inhibition.
