Description of key information

A study conducted according to OECD guideline 204 and 215 to determine the effects on mortality, signs of intoxication and growth following exposure to a structurally similar substance, amides, C12-18(even-numbered) and C18(unsatd.), N,N-bis(hydroxyethyl) in rainbow trout for 28 days. The NOEC and LOEC for mortality, symptoms of intoxication and effects on growth was established at nominal concentrations of 0.32 and 1.0 mg/L (i.e., equivalent to a measured concentration of 0.26 and 0.83 mg/L) respectively in rainbow trout. Further, the lowest lethal concentration was established at 1.0 mg/L (i.e., equivalent to a measured concentration of 0.83 mg/L). Based on read-across these values will be used for the assessment of HE Rape Oil, reaction product with diethanolamine.

A study was carried out to determine the effects on mortality, signs of intoxication and growth following exposure to a read across test substance, amides, C12-18(even-numbered) and C18(unsatd.), N,N-bis(hydroxyethyl) in rainbow trout for 28 days. The study was conducted according to OECD guidelines 204 and 215.

Ten fish per glass vessel was exposed to the test substance at 0.032, 0.10, 0.32, 1.0 and 3.2 mg/L under flow through conditions. Mortality and symptoms of intoxication were observed daily and the growth parameters (i.e., body length and weight) were observed at Day 0 and 28.

At the highest nominal test concentration of 3.2 mg/L, all fish were dead after one day. At nominal concentration of 1.0 mg/L, all fish showed clear symptoms of intoxication and all died until Day 25. No significant effect on mortality or signs of intoxications was observed up to a nominal test concentration of 0.32 mg/L. Further, according to the results of Williams-Tests, the mean body length and mean body wet weight of the surviving fish were also not significantly reduced compared to the control up to and including the test concentration of nominal 0.32 mg/L. Growth rates at higher concentrations could not be determined due to mortality.
