Description of key information

(2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate did not inhibit C and N in soil bacteria and soil fungi

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Effects of the test substance on C and N metabolism of soil microorganisms were tested in vitro in the laboratory using soil fungi and soil bacteria. (2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate did not inhibit C and N metabolic degradation exemplified by the degradation of the test substance itself by eleven species of fungi widespread in soil. All but one of the fungal species tested in the laboratory rapidly degraded (2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate to a single

product after 120 h in shake-flask cultures at 27°C, suggesting that there is no inhibitory effect of the substance on soil fungi.
