Description of key information

BCF of (2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate is 220-380 in whole fish. The substance is eliminated from the fish with an initial half-live of less than 1 d in fish when environmental supply is terminated

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
380 L/kg ww

Additional information

The bioconcentration potential of (2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate was determined in bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus) in a 44 d flow-through study with a constant concentration of 0.0087 mg/L 14C-labelled test item for a 30 d exposure period. Radioanalysis of whole fish, fillet and visceral portions throughout the exposure period indicated a rapid uptake

of 14C-(2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate. Bioaccumulation reached steady state after 3 d. At d 30 concentrations of 14C-(2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate were 2.2-3.7 ppm for whole fish, 0.24-0.91 ppm for fillet and 3.7-7.3 ppm for viscera. Elimination of 14C-(2-Ethoxy-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl)-5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl) phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoate was measured for 14 d by placing the fish into clean water. Clearance was 99, 94 and 99 % w/w for whole

fish, fillet and viscera, respectively .

Uptake-depuration was modeled for whole fish using a two-compartment kinetic model yielding a bioconcentration factor (BCF) of 220. With measured values of the 30th d, the BCF was 380 (whole body w.w.)
