Description of key information

The test substance has oxidising properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
yes

Additional information

The oxidizing properties of the test substance are assessed in a GLP study according to internationally accepted guidelines. The burning time of several mixtures of cellulose + test substance was compared with those of equal amounts of cellulose + potassium bromate mixtures.

The mean burning time of the mixture of 4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio (by mass) was less than the mean burning time of a 3:2 reference mixture (by mass) of potassium bromated and cellulose. It can therefore be concluded that the test substance has oxidizing properties and is to be classified as Oxidising Solid Cat. 1.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available test results show that the test substance in a mixture with cellulose 4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio (by mass) had a shorter mean burning time than the 3:2 reference mixture of potassium bromate and cellulose. As a consequence, in accordance with the criteria described in Regulation EC 1272/2008 (CLP), classifcation as an oxidizing solid Cat. 1 is required.
