The measurements in aluminium crucibles with a hole showed an endothermal effect (melting) in the temperature range of 45 -65°C with onset temperatures between 54.46 °C and 54.32 °C.

From the results of the DSC measurements it was concluded that the test item had a melting point of 54.6 °C.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to OECD test guideline 102, Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.1 to determine the melting point of the test item using differential scanning calorimetry. The test item was weighed out into an aluminium crucible under an inert atmosphere (nitrogen). Two tests with about 9 -15 mg of the test item were performed. As reference crucible, an empty aluminium crucible was used. In a defined atmosphere (nitrogen) the test item is heated up from ambient temperature to the final temperature (150 and 500 °C, respectively) at a constant heating rate (10 K/min). The quantity of heat absorbed or released is measured and recorded. From the results of the DSC measurements it was concluded that the test item had a melting point of 54.6 °C.
