Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

After 96 h thiophosphoryl trichloride showed a LC 0 = 88 mg/L and the LC50 of 99 mg/L (determined per probit analysis) was probably caused by pH effects.

Additional information

In order to test acute toxicity of thiophosphoryl trichloride to fish, Danio rerio was exposed to the test solution of 6 nominal concentration of thiophosphoryl trichloride ( 22, 31, 44, 63, 88, and 125 mg/L) and blank control solution for a period of 96 h under static conditions.

Mortality and visible abnormalities were recorded at 2, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h.

After treating with ultra turrax white particulate precipitation at all test concentrations. The particulates were not removed by filtration.

At beginn of the test the pH was neutralizated. During the test the pH changes to an acidic level (pH 5 at 125 mg/L). A re-evaluation of the test results a new LC 0. All fish were alive until test concentration 88 mg/L. Therefore the new LC 0 is 88 mg/L. As a result of low pH at the test concentration 63 mg/L one fish was dead after 48h. The sluggish, swimming action at 63 and 88 mg/L (test concentraion) results from the pH effect. The low pH 5 effects the mortadility at test concentration 125 mg/l.

This toxicity study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for the toxicity study to fish (Danio rerio).
