Description of key information

Experimental assessment was not technically feasible according to the internationally recognized methods for the Sepisol Fast Yellow MG-DPG. So, a calculated value based on individual solubilities in water and octanol-1 was estimated by 2 different method in order to generate a value to run the CSA.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
1.4
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Because of its low solubility and its surfactive properties, none of the OCDE guidelines were technically feasible to measure the Log Kow of Sepisol Fast Yellow MG-DPG.

Therefore, the Log Kow were calculated from the measured solubilities of the test item in octanol and in water separately obtained by 2 different methods: (1) by spectrometry and (2) by HPLC, according to the following equation:

Log Kow = Log (Coct/Ceau)

1- By spectrometry, the solubilities are

- Coct = 2727 mg/L

- Cwater = 140 mg/L

So, Log Kow by spectro = 1.3

2- By HPLC, the solubilities are

- Coct = 3348 mg/L

- Cwater = 125 mg/L

So, Log Kow by HPLC = 1.4

Although the difference of the solubilities of the test item in the octanol phase between the measure by spectrometry and the one by HPLC, the Log Kow are very close.

However, the HPLC method is more accurate since the 2 ions are separated and the analysis is based on surfaces and not on maximum absorbance. Furthermore, the dilution phase is less important in the HPLC method, riducing the margin of error.
