Description of key information

The water solubility of Dodecane-12-lactam, manufacturing of, by-products from, distillation residues, or 10-undecenoic acid was evaluated in a GLP-study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 105 (flask method)
As the test item is present as a complex reaction product of unknown and variable composition, standard tests for water solubility are not typically appropriate for the test item: phase separation and a range of solubilities were observed from 0.4103 to 0.8460 g/L (depending on pH and the substance considered).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
612.5 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The water solubility of Dodecane-12-lactam, manufacturing of, by-products from, distillation residues, or 10-undecenoic acid was evaluated in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 105 and GLP requirements.

The flask method was used.

As the test item is present as a complex reaction product of unknown and variable composition, standard tests for water solubility are not typically appropriate. Therefore phase separation and a range of solubilities were observed and portions of the test item remained undissolved :

Milli-RO water = 0.4671 g/L (Dodecane-12-lactam principal component)

= 0.9368 g/L (combined hydrocarbon structures of test item)

pH 4 buffer = 0.4280 g/L (Dodecane-12-lactam principal component)

= 0.4560 g/L (combined hydrocarbon structures of test item)

pH 7 buffer = 0.4103 g/L (Dodecane-12-lactam principal component)

= 0.6125 g/L (combined hydrocarbon structures of test item)

pH 9 buffer = 0.4346 g/L (Dodecane-12-lactam principal component)

= 0.8460 g/L (combined hydrocarbon structures of test item)

Validity criteria were fulfilled.
