Description of key information

Short description of key information on bioaccumulation potential result:
Although considerable interindividual variability exists, the whole-body elimination half-time of absorbed iodide has been estimated to be approximately 31 days in healthy adult males, (Van Dilla & Fulwyler, 1963; Hays, 2001).
Iodide can be well absorbed via the oral route of exposure. After absorption main of iodide (30 - 60%) can be excreted via urine very quickly, and approximately 20–30% of the iodine was distributed to the thyroid. To metabolism phase the only physiologic role known for iodine in the human body is in the synthesis of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland.
