Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of Hexamethylene diisocyanate, oligomers, reaction products with N-(3-trimethoxysilyl)propylbutylamine and Bis-(Trimethoxysilylpropyl)amine on microorganisms was tested in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 209 (Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test) with domestic activated sludge [BASF SE, 2012]. After 3 hours of incubation the EC20 was above 1000 mg/L based on nominal concentration (EC10 > 1000 mg/L). No inhibiting effect on the respiration rate of the bacteria was measured.
