Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From July 30 to 31, 2014
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. The substance is adequately characterised with its isomers composition. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.7200 (Melting Point / Melting Range)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Not applicable
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
inspected on November 29 and 30, 2010 / signed on April 11, 2011
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Key result

After performance of the pre-test, the sponsor was consulted. As according to REACH annex VII, column 2 of section 7.2, the determination of the melting / freezing point does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of - 20 °C, no main study was performed.

A freezing point of the test item was not determined, as the test item is still liquid at – 20 °C. Therefore, the freezing point is stated as < – 20 °C (<253.15 K).

Conclusions:
No further testing is required.
Executive summary:

The freezing point of the test substance was determined according to OECD 102/EU A1 guideline.

The test item was filled into glass vessels and stored at – 80, – 20 and 5 °C for 25 h.

As the test item is still liquid at – 20 °C, the main study was not required, and the freezing point is stated as < – 20 °C (<253.15 K).

Description of key information

Freezing point (i.e. transition from liquid to solid) < -20°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized EC method and under GLP, is available. Therefore, it is considered as a key study. As no solidification was observed at -20°C, no further testing is required. The result is expressed as a limit value, and cannot be retained as key data.
