Additional information

Experimental data on the acute toxicity of CAS 693 -98 -1 to aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna) are available. 

The short-term toxicity study with Daphnia magna was performed according to EU Method C.2. In this static study the 48 -h EC50 value of the test substance was determined to be 225.3 mg/L (nominal, BASF AG, 1989, rep. no.: 11F0051/2189-0091189).

In this test the test concentrations were not analytically verified. However, the substance is assumed to be stable due to the substances' high water solubility (2.67e+05 mg/L, BASF SE, rep. no.: 11L00195, 2012), its low potential to evaporate based on its low vapor pressure (VP = 0.078 Pa, BASF SE, rep. no.: 11L00195, 2012) and its low Henry's Law Constant (HLC = 0.42 Pa m³/mol, calculated with the EPI Suite v4.11, BASF SE 2019). Moreover, the substance is not expected to adsorb based on its low log Kow and the calculated low log Koc values (see IUCLID Ch. 5.4.1).

Another short-term toxicity study with Daphnia magna, conducted according to the OECD guideline 202 resulted in a slightly lower effect value (48 -h EC50 = 200 mg/L). The test concentrations were analytically verified. The study was performed and published by the Japanese authorities in 2006 (J-CHECK 2006), which is regarded as a reliable source. Though no full test report is available at present the data from this source are known to be well documented and the tests are performed according to GLP and OECD guidelines. Therefore, this study was selected as the key study.

Based on the available experimental data, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
