Test Results for Ethyl 2-methylbutyrate:
- Date: 12/10/2011
- Operator: I. Livingston
- Preparation: Sample tested as received.
- SOP Reference: CTL SOP No. 412
- Apparatus: Pyrophoric Liquid System 1
Test Objective: To determine if a sample of Ethyl 2-methylbutyrate is a pyrophoric liquid.
Test Information: A small quantity of the sample (1-2 ml) was dropped from a height of approximately 1 metre onto a non-combustible surface. It was observed if the sample ignited on dropping or within 5 minutes of settling. The test was performed six times.
Test Results for Porcelain Cup Test:
Test Number Ignition or No ignition Observations
1 No ignition No reaction
2 No ignition No reaction
3 No ignition No reaction
4 No ignition No reaction
5 No ignition No reaction
6 No ignition No reaction
Test Results for Filter Paper Test:
Test Number Ignition or No ignition Charring or No charring Observations
1 No ignition No charring No reaction
2 No ignition No charring No reaction
3 No ignition No charring No reaction
No ignition or charring was observed during any test. The sample is therefore 'Not a pyrophoric liquid'.
Description of key information
Not flammable.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
No ignition or charring was observed during any test. The sample is therefore 'Not a pyrophoric liquid'.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The substance was found to be non-flammable and therefore will not be classified.
