Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
25.09.2008 to 09.03.2009
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
(2008)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
In a preliminary test, the flammability of MDEA-Esterquat (Rewoquat V 10057) was investigated.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Burning time:
< 240 s

In a preliminary test, the flammability of MDEA-Esterquat was investigated. In contact with the flame of the gas burner (240 s), the test substance melted, smoked and turn into a yellow, white residue. After removal of the ignition source, propagation of combustion of the test substance along 200 mm length of the test substance pile was not observed. Based on this observation, the test substance was not considered as highly flammable.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
According to GHS (2012) classification criteria MDEA-Esterquat C16-18 and C18 unsatd. proved to be not highly flammable.
Executive summary:

In a preliminary test according to EC no. 440/2008, A.10., MDEA-Esterquat C16-18 and C18 unsatd. proved to be not highly flammable.

Registrants supplemental note: According to CLP (2012) MDEA-Esterquat has not to be classified as a flammable solid.

Description of key information

not highly flammable according to test result; non flammable according to GHS (2012) classification criteria

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

In a preliminary screening test according to EC no. 440/2008, A.10., the flammability of MDEA-Esterquat C16-18 and C18 unsatd. was investigated. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test substance was observed. With this result the outcome of the screening test is negative and according to GLP (2012) classification criteria the substance is not to be classified.

Justification for classification or non-classification
