Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Using the weight of evidence approach; the bio-accumulation potential of calcium iodate which belong to the same category of iodate salts as the read across chemicals (sodium and potassium iodate) appears to be low (except in the eye)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
low bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

The read across chemicalssodium iodate and potassium iodate belong to the same category of iodate salts as the target chemical calcium iodate. Thus, it can be concluded that calcium iodate shall also exhibit low bio-accumulation potential within the living system. However, it is important to mention that at much higher doses given intravenously (i.e., above 10 mg/kg), iodate is highly toxic to the retina. Ocular toxicity in humans has occurred after exposure to doses of 600 to 1200 mg per individual.
