Description of key information

Toxicity of calcium iodate to terrestrial plants are considered to be unnecessary.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since

a) Calcium iodate is readily biodegradable

b) It is not applied directly to soil and

c) the substance is not expected to be transferred indirectly to soil in significant quantity via disposal of STP sludges or aerial deposition

d) Also the exposure of terrestrial plants to calcium iodate is unlikely to occur.

Consequently tests of the toxicity of calcium iodate to terrestrial plants are considered to be unnecessary.
