Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Parent comound 4 -chlorobutyryl chloride and hydrolysis product 4 -chlorobutyric acid:

The ready biodegradability of 4 -chlorobutyryl chloride (CAS 4635 -59 -0) was tested according to OECD 301A (Ready Biodegradability: DOC Die Away Test) using municipal activated sludge. The DOC removal was determined to be 90 - 100% after 14 days which demonstrate the ready biodegradablity of the substance (BASF AG, 1999, 99/0112/21/1).

4 -chlorobutyryl chloride hydrolyses rapidly, therefore the activated sludge was mainly exposed to its hydrolysis products 4 -chlorobutyric acid and hydrochloric acid.

Regarding the results of the key study on ready biodegradability, 4 -chlorobutyryl chloride and its hydrolysis product 4 -chlorobutyric acid are assessed to be readily biodegradable.
