Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for Propane-1,2,3-triyl 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS No. 7360-38-5) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2017d).

Persistence

Propane-1,2,3-triyl 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS No. 7360-38-5) is considered to be readily biodegradable. This assumption is based on a study conducted according to OECD 301B (85% (CO2 evolution) after 28 d). Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistence and it is not considered to be P or vP.

Bioaccumulation

The bioaccumulation potential of Propane-1,2,3-triyl 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS No. 7360-38-5) is expected to be low. This assumption is based on a low bioavailability of the substance due to its ready biodegradability, high adsorption potential and low water solubility. Furthermore the substance is rapidly metabolised and excreted by organisms and thus an accumulation is not expected. This is supported by calculated low BCF/BAF values (1.05 L/kg; Arnot-Gobas estimate, upper trophic). Thus, the substance is not considered to be B or vB.

Toxicity

For the substance Propane-1,2,3-triyl 2-ethylhexanoate (CAS No. 7360-38-5) the available acute effect concentrations are ≥ 0.1 mg/L (fish, algae) and the chronic effect concentration (fish, Daphnia and algae) is ≥ 0.01 mg/L. The substance is not classified as carcinogenic (category 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (category 1A or 1B) or toxic for reproduction (category 1A, 1B or 2) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. In addition, the substance shows no specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure (STOT RE category 1 or 2) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. The substance is readily biodegradable and has a low potential for bioaccumulation. Therefore, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.
