Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Under environmentally relevant conditions, the test substance is a gas and has a measured vapour pressure of 5106.8 mm Hg at 25°C indicating that the material will exist only in the atmosphere, a high Henry's Law constant and a low potential for sorption to soil and sediment. These properties indicate that it will partition into the air compartment. The atmospheric lifetime of HFPO is 90 years, which corresponds to an atmospheric half-life of 60 years. However, during the course of the water solubility determinations of HFPO, an unexpected loss of test material was observed. Subsequent analysis of the water by liquid chromatography/high resolution mass spectrometry indicated the presence of 2,2-dihydroxytrifluoropropionic acid as a hydrolysis product. The same water solubility study determined the hydrolytic half-life of HFPO to be 58 hours at neutral pH.
