There are no data describing the long-term toxicity of the registered substance to terrestrial arthropods.
However, an earthworm reproduction test (OECD 222) and soil microorganism test (OECD 216) have been conducted with the registration substance, L4.
No effects were observed in the tests and the test substance showed analytical recoveries during the earthworm study indicate that there was substantial material loss, due to the volatility of the substance. However the analytical monitoring indicates that the test organisms were exposed to the test material for the duration of the 56 day earthworm study. Therefore the test organisms are expected to have been exposed to significant concentrations of the test substance.
A 28 day NOEC value of ≥1000 mg/kg dry weight has been determined for the effects of L4 on growth and survival of adult earthworms, based on nominal concentrations. A 56 day NOEC value of ≥1000 mg/kg dry weight and EC10 value of >1000 mg/kg dry weight have been determined for the effects of the test substance on reproduction of the earthworm, based on nominal concentrations. The nominal concentration of 1000 mg/kg is equivalent to a measured concentration of 440 mg/kg.
A 28 day EC10 value of >100 mg/kg dry weight has been determined for the effects of the test substance on nitrate formation rate, based on nominal concentrations.
As no effects were observed, no PNECsoil was derived.
The earthworm is the standard organism for soil macroorganisms and there is no indication that arthropods would be any more susceptible, therefore the data generated from the earthworm reproduction test and soil microorganism test are considered to be suitable to derive hazard and risk assessment under REACH for L4 and the requirement for further tests with terrestrial arthropods is waived.
