Description of key information

Using the static method, vapour pressures of 1093 Pa at 20 °C and 1434 Pa at 25 °C were
determined.
These values were calculated from the regression of eleven individual measurements,
which were performed in a temperature range of 15.5 – 55.8 °C.

Additional information

This study was performed in order to determine the vapour pressure of Tar wood. The vapour pressure is one of the physico-chemical properties of a substance and needed for risk assessments. In the static method, the vapour pressure at thermodynamic equilibrium was determined at a specified temperature. This method is suitable for substances and multicomponent liquids and solids in the range from 10–2 to 10+5 Pa.

The vapour pressure of Tar wood was measured using the static method as described in EU method A.4. Eleven pairs temperature/vapour pressure were used to calculate a regression from which vapour pressure at ambient temperature could be estimated.

From the measured values, the vapour pressure of the test item Tar wood was calculated as 1093 Pa at 20.0 °C and 1434 Pa at 25 °C. The values of the heating and cooling down phase showed good correspondence.
