Description of key information

The adsorption coefficient (log Koc) of PFBE (3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,6-nonafluorohexene) was determined by the HPLC Screening method according to draft OECD Guideline 121. PFBE: log Koc = 2.96.
This is a relatively high value indicating fairly high potential for adsorption to soil and sediment.

This is a relatively high value indicating fairly high potential for adsorption to soil and sediment.

A suitable selection of reference compounds and the test substance were chromatographed under standard HPLC conditions using a cyanopropyl solid phase.

The capacity factors (k' bzw. log k') of the reference compounds were calculated using their retention times and the dead time of the HPLC system. The log k' values of the reference compounds and their adsorption coefficients (log koc) were plotted (log k' versus log koc) to form a calibration function to determine the adsorption coefficient of the test substance.
