Description of key information

The biodegradability of glycerine carbonate was determined using the CO2 evolution method. Glycerine carbonate can be classified as readily biodegradable.

Additional information

One key study (K1) of Belarde (2003) was availble, measuring the biodegradability of glycerine carbonate using the CO2 evolution method. The biodegradation of glycerine carbonate exposed to a microbial inoculum in aerobic, mineral salts medium at an initial test concentration of 20 mg C/L was measured. The inoculum was activated sludge. All systems were sampled for CO2 trapped in 0.2 NKOH on days 2 -5 -7 -9 -14 -19 -23 -28 and 29. The theoretical CO2 values were 90.5 and 93.6% for replicate 1 and replicate 2 respectively on day 29. Therefore, glycerine carbonate can be classified as readily biodegradable .
