Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: company SOP; similar or identical to the Grewer screening test in VDI 2263 sheet 1
Deviations:
not specified
Principles of method if other than guideline:
A 8 ml cylindrical fine-mesh wire basket is filled with the test substance. The same is done with graphite as reference. Both samples are heated electrically in an air stream and the temperature inside the two samples is recorded. At the onset temperature the temperature of the test substance exceeds that of the reference measurement. Classification as self heating is required when the onset temperature is below 220°C
GLP compliance:
no

Results and discussion

Auto-ignition temperature (liquids / gases)
Auto-ignition temperature:
> 320 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 1 atm
Remarks on result:
other: sample was mixed 1 : 1 with Kieselgur
Relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 320 °C
Remarks on result:
other: sample was mixed 1 : 1 with Kieselgur
Remarks:
at atm. press. of ca.1.0 atm

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Based on the test result the test item has not to be classified as a self heating substance
Executive summary:

The self ignition temperature of the test item was determined in the Grewer oven analogous VDI 2263 sheet 1 and was found to be higher than 320 °C
