Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012_07_24
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study was performed in accordance with GLP requirements. No deviations were observed.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Burning time:
> 1 - < 3 s
Remarks on result:
other: The study reportof the preliminary tests says "a few seconds"
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks:
Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state (migrated information).
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
Remarks:
corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air

Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state (migrated information).
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
Remarks:
corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.
Remarks on result:
no reaction with water observed
Remarks:
corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.
Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The test item dermosoft decalact can not be classified as flammable according to the definition in the EEC directive 92/69/EEC, method A.10
Executive summary:

The flammability (solids) was determined according to the test method A.10 "Flammability (solids)" as decsribed in Directive 92/69/EEC (Official Journal of the European Communities L383A) .

The substance is formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250 mm long and a preliminary screening test is performed to determine if, on ignition by a gas flame, propagation by burning with flame or smoldering occurs. If propagation over 200 mm of the train occurs within a specified time then a full test programme to determine the burning rate is carried out.

The prelimininary test was performed by using a gas burner to ignit the test item.

result: The test item was ignited by the flame of the gas burner but the flame ceases within few seconds without propagation of the burning zone. Therefore the main test was not necessary.

Description of key information

No pyrophoricity.

No flammability on contact with water.

No self-heating properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The flammability (solids) was determined according to the test method A.10 "Flammability (solids)" as decsribed in Directive 92/69/EEC (Official Journal of the European Communities L383A).

The substance is formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250 mm long and a preliminary screening test is performed to determine if, on ignition by a gas flame, propagation by burning with flame or smoldering occurs. If propagation over 200 mm of the train occurs within a specified time, then a full test programme to determine the burning rate is carried out.

The prelimininary test was performed by using a gas burner to ignit the test item.

result: The test item was ignited by the flame of the gas burner but the flame ceases within few seconds without propagation of the burning zone. Therefore, the main test was not necessary.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item was ignited by the flame of the gas burner but the flame ceases within few seconds without propagation of the burning zone.

Therefore, the test item can not be classified as flammable according to the definition in the EEC Directive 92/69/ EEC, method A.10
