Description of key information

Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of ´α,α'-propylenedinitrilodi-o-cresol´.

Algae were the most sensitive species revealing an EC50 (72h) of 1.117 mg/L. Thus, the ´α,α'-propylenedinitrilodi-o-cresol´ is considered to be acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. Studies on the effects of the test item towards fish and daphnia support this conclusion by providing a LC50 (96h) of approximately 46 mg/L for fish and an EC50 (48h) of 3.162 mg/L for Daphnia.

The ErC10 value from the study with algae was 0.116 mg/L (measured). No data on long-term toxicity on fish and aquatic invertebrates are available.

The chemical safety assessment of the registered substance does not indicate the need to further investigate long-term effects on aquatic organisms.
