Description of key information

Skin and Eye irritiation testing performed by Smyth et all indicate the absense of skin irritiation, but severe eye indication.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Additional information

Skin irritation

the primary skin irritation of a 0,01% solution of the test substance on the clipped belly of albino rabbits on a 24h exposure period was tested on each of 5 rabbits. The result score of 1 out of a scale of 10 corresponds to no irritation having been observed under test conditions. (Smyth, 1969)

Eye irritation

in an primary eye irritation test, the test substance was applied in seveal concentrations to the eye of 5 rabbits per dose level for 24h. Immediately after the application period the irritiation effects were scored on a scale of 1 -10.The test substance was rated as 7, corresponding to severe eye irritation (Symth, 1969)

Effects on eye irritation: highly irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Skin: no irritiation was obsevered.

Eye: Severe eye irritation of 7 from a scale of 10 was observed, leading to a classification for eye irritation Cat. 2
