Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Monoethylene glycol: Bacterial growth inhibition (P putida, 16hr NOEC) >10000mgl/

Diethylene glycol: Activated sludge respiration inhibition (30 min, EC20) >1995mg/l

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 995 mg/L

Additional information

There is measured data available on two of the three constituents of the substance. There is no data on sodium acetate, but for all other trophic levels, the available information indicates that this substance has negligible toxicity, with EC50 and Chv values assessed as 1 -2 orders of magnitude lower than the glycol components. This property is highly likely to also be seen with micro-organisms and therefore toxicity will be dominated by the glycol components. The lowest available EC10/20 figure for the glycol components is therefore used as the key parameter. This is likely to be a conservative assessment of the toxicity of this substance towards microorganisms as all available studies are limit studies.
