Measured 96hr LC50 of components: 72.9, 75.2g/L respectively for MEG and DEG.

There are measured LC50 values available for two of the three main components. However, one of these is only a limit value. The two measured values are similar and from the structural similarity of the three components, similar toxicity would be expected. A QSAR predicts that toxicity decreases with increasingly molecular weight. The QSAR does not include a specific class covering acetate salts but predicts that the same neutral organics class can be used as an alternative. The QSAR suggests that sodium acetate will be of similar that MEG, which confirms that the reliable measured data from MEG can be used as a conservative alternative to predict the overall toxicity of the substance. All data indicates very low toxicity to fish. The key parameter is set at a rounded figure close to the two true LC50 measured values. The key parameter is consistent with the QSAR and remaining limit value.
