Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide, Dry powder, water spray

Product arising from burning: May include oxides of carbon and nitrogen

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Fire fighters must wear positive pressure self-contained
breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Do not breathe dust or fumes. Wear air hood or
self-contained breathing apparatus, one piece impermeable
overalls and impermeable gloves, PVC or rubber.

A filtered vacuum should be used to clean up spills of dry
solids. Otherwise, wet the material with water and collect
for disposal. Clean spill area thoroughly. Collect wash
with absorbent material and transfer all waste to a suitably
labelled container for disposal.

Do not allow into waterways or the environment.

Exposed material not to be handled by female personnel.

Handling and storage

Handling: Personnel handling the substance must wear appropriate
personal protective equipment (dust mask or air hood,
impermeable gloves, chemical goggles and anti-static
impermeable overalls and foot-wear). Wash hands after
handling.

The following engineering control measures must be used:
local exhaust ventilation linked to a suitable filtration
system, and equipment should be properly bonded and equipped
with proper explosion relief.

Storage: Store in a clean dry area in sealed containers with the
contents protected from light. Keep separate from fire
promoting or explosive materials.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: 50 kilo fibre drums with polyethylene liners and secured
with a retaining ring.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Hazardous reactions with oxidising agents

Chemical reaction with water: None

Dust explosion: Kst value = 250 bar.m/s

This indicates a strong dust explosion hazard.

Dust explosion determined by test: Y

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: None known

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: None known

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incineration code: A: 663

This is the preferred method of disposal.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable as the test substance does not enter the
public domain.
