First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, treat symptomatically. If symptoms

develop, seek medical advice.

First aid is not normally required.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Brush off excess powder from around eyes. Flush affected

area with water. If symptoms develop, seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Skin: Brush off excess powder. Flush affected area with water. If

symptoms develop, seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention. Do not induce vomiting. If

conscious, washout mouth and give water to drink.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, other extinguishing agents

suitable for Class B fires.

For large fires use water spray or fog, thoroughly drenching

the burning material.

Water mist may be used to cool closed containers.

Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in

a fire, evolving noxious fumes (e.g. carbon oxides and

potassium containing compounds).

Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing

apparatus must be worn.

Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS: Restrict access to area as appropriate

until clean-up operations are complete. Use personal

protective equipment. Stop or reduce any leaks if it is safe

to do so. Ventilate spill area if possible. Ensure clean-up

is conducted by trained personnel only. Do not touch

spilled material. Have emergency equipment (for fires,

spills, leaks, etc.) readily available. Notify appropriate

government, occupational health and safety and environmental

authorities.

METHODS FOR CLEAN UP:

SMALL SPILLS: Sweep or scoop into a beaker and dissolve in

water.

LARGE SPILLS: Clean up promptly by scoop or vacuum. Reclaim

into recovery or salvage drums. Clean contaminated surfaces

with water or aqueous cleaning agents. Contact an approved

waste hauler for disposal of contaminated recovered

material. Dispose of material in compliance with

regulations.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS: Do not contaminate surface water.

Handling and storage

Handling: ENGINEERING MEASURES: General ventilation is recommended.

PERSONAL PROTECTION:

GENERAL ADVICE: The use and choice of personal protection

equipment is related to the hazard of the product, the

workplace and the way the product is handeled. In general,

we recommend as a minimum precaution that safety glasses

with side-sheilds and workclothes protecting arms, legs and

body be used. In addition any person visiting an area where

this product is handled should at least wear safety glasses

with side-sheilds. The applicable European standard can be

found in EN 166.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: No exposure limits have been

assigned to this substance. However, the use of a half face

filter mask or air supplied breathing apparatus is

recommended. A suitable filter material depends on the

amount and type of chemicals being handled. Consider the use

of filter type: P. The applicable European standard can be

found in EN 141, EN 143 and EN 371. In event of emergency of

planned entry into unknown concentrations a positive

pressure, full-facepiece SCBA shouls be used. If respiratory

protection is required, institute a complete respiratory

protection program including selection, fit testing,

training, maintenance and inspection.

HAND PROTECTION: When handling this substance, the use of

chemical gauntlets is recommended. The choice of work glove

depends on work conditions and what chemicals are handled,

but from positive experience under light handling

conditions, PVC gloves seem suitable. Gloves should be

replaced immediately if signs of degradation are observed.

Breakthrough time not determined, consult PPE manufacturers.

SKIN PROTECTION: Wear standard protective clothing. See

general advice.

EYE PROTECTION: When handling this substance, the use of

safety glasses with side sheild is recommended. The

applicable European standard can be found in EN 166.

HYGIENE RECOMMENDATIONS: Use good work and personal hygiene

practices to avoid exposure. Keep an eye wash fountain

available. Keep a safety shower available. If clothing is

contaminated, remove clothing and thoroughly wash the

affected area. Launder contaminated clothing before re-use.

Always wash thoroughly after handling chemicals. When

handling this product never eat, drink or smoke.

Storage: Store in suitably labelled containers. Keep the containers

tightly closed when not in use.

Store separately from oxidisers.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The substance is stable under normal conditions.

Hazardous polymerisation will not occur.

Avoid extremes of temperature.

Materials to avoid:

Contact with strong oxidisers (e.g. chlorine, peroxides,

chromates, nitric acid, perchlorate, concentrated oxygen,

permanganate) may generate heat, fires, explosions and/or

toxic vapours.

Chemical reaction with water: None reported.

Dust explosion: Under normal conditions of use this material does not

present a significant explosion hazard. However, like most

organic compounds it is combustible and may form a dust

explosion if widely dispersed in air.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from

minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically

or technically feasible, and such waste material will be

disposed of by incineration.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Low hazard, neutralisation not required.

The dust hazard will be minimised by appropriate handling

and storage.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers or spillages of solutions mixed

with inert material (e.g. sand or soil) may be disposed of

by landfill at an authorised tip in accordance with local

regulations.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning

under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment

processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases

should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (e.g. carbon

oxides and ptassium containing compounds) could be formed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not normally be discharged directly

tothe sewage system or the aqueous environment. However,

adverse effects  on sewage treatment systems would be

unlikely.
