Description of key information

In a GLP study conducted according to EU Method A.16, EDDS acid had a relative self-ignition temperature of 217oC at normal atmospheric pressure (Gair et al. 2002). In a GLP study conducted according to UN guidelines, a 100 mm cube sample of EDDS acid did not self-heat nor ignite when placed in an oven at a constant temperature of 140oC for 24 hr (Merritt, 2002).

In a GLP study conducted according to EU Method A.16, the effect of heating EDDS acid in a 20 mm wire mesh cube with 0.045 mm openings to 400oC in a temperature-controlled oven at a rate of 0.5oC/min was examined. It was found that the sample had a relative self-ignition temperature of 217oC at normal atmospheric pressure (Gair et al. 2002).

In a GLP study conducted according to UN guidelines, a 100 mm cube sample of EDDS acid did not self-heat nor ignite when placed in an oven at a constant temperature of 140oC for 24 hr (at normal atmospheric pressure). EDDS acid should, therefore, not be classified as a self-heating substance (Merritt, 2002).

In addition, a GLP study conducted according to EU Method A.16, trisodium EDDS was not auto-inflammable at up to 400oC (van Helvoirt, 1993d). [Data on trisodium EDDS is considered relevant to use for understanding the potential auto flammability of EDDS acid, and is acceptable for using as read-across].
