First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Move affected person to fresh air. Support breathing if

necessary by the use of supplemental oxygen or artificial

respiration. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately flush particles from eyes with water for at

least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash exposed areas with soap and water. Seek medical

attention if any irritation develops. Wash contaminated

clothing before reuse.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Move person to fresh air and seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: The material is not combustible, Use media appropriate for

surrounding material.

Product arising from burning: Upon pyrolysis in air, the PMN chemical will converted to

vanadyl pyrophosphate, (VO)2P2O7, and subsequently to VOPO4.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Material is not combustible, however, in case of fire in

which the material is involved, fire fighters must wear self

contained breathing apparatus with full face mask.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Any spilled material will be collected by use of vacuum

collection system or by shoveling or sweeping. In windy or

rainy weather, the spilled material will be covered to

prevent it from being blown or washed away. All spilled

material thus recovered will be returned to the process,

otherwise it will be recycled for vanadium recovery by

appropriate industries. Appropriate personal protective

equipment (as detailed in section 2.3.10) will be required

to be worn during clean-up operations.

Handling and storage

Handling: Adequate ventilation will be provided and care will be taken

to avoid dust generation. Dring handling and and any

operation wherethere is potential for airborne exposure in

excess of applicable limits, workers will be required to

wear NIOSH/MSHA (or equivalent) approved respiratory

protection and eye and face protection (safety glasses or

coverall chemical splash goggles). Additionally, good

industrial hygiene practices to minimize skin contact will

be implemented. This will include the wearing of protective

gloves and thorough washing of hands and contaminated skin

after handling. In all operations where clothing may became

contaminated, "Tyvek" or equivalent coveralls will be

required to be worn.

Contaminated clothing will be either decontaminated through

adequate washing or be disposed of.

Storage: All the material will be stored in container thightly

closed, stored in dry and covered area.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The preparation will be packed in lined Flexible

Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC) or small alluminum

plastic lined sealed bags contained in plastic bag and steel

drum. These FIBCs or stell drums will be additionally

packaged in secondary and tertiary containers to withstand

cross-ocean and cross-country transport.

Remarks:
Transport code: HI
Transport: The product is stable, non combustible, not corrosive.

Transport will be in plastic lined FIBCs. The FIBCs are made
of polypropylene woven fabric with an internal plastic
lining. The weight of spray dried VPO precursor in each FIBC
is expected to be 1 ton (maximum). The FIBCs will be
individually contained within external plastic liners. Each
plastic covered FIBC will be further contained inside a
cardboard box. These boxes will be secured by plastic straps
to pallets which will be subsequently plastic shrink-wrapped
and then placed within metal export containers.

The substance may be even transported in 1-3 kg alluminum
polypropylene lined sealed bags. 20-35 bags will be
contained in a singol plastic bags contained in an approved
tight steel drums.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None

Chemical reaction with water: There are no known dangers associated with the material

coming into contact with water.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The Vanadium (IV) Oxy Hydrogen Phosphate Hemihydrate will be

converted during its use to active catalyst, Vanadyl

Pyrophosphate, in situ in the heated reactor. Spent Vanadyl

Pirophosphate catalyst as well as the original Vanadium (IV)

Oxy Hydrogen Phosphate hemihydrate are sent to treatement

for Vanadium recovery.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Neutralization of potential hazardous effect is infeasible.

Measures recommended in Section 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5 will be

taken to prevent exposure to humans and the environment.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Damaged or off-specification material will be properly

packaged and sent to equipped company for Vanadium recovery.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Not Possible..

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance will not be discharged into waste water

system.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Recycling is the most viable option for this substance. it

is possible to recycle spent or spilled material from any

source regardless of the quantity involved.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will be used in industry only and hence will

not enter the public domain.
