First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with plenty of water for at least fifteen minutes.

Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray/fog and alcohol foam may be used.

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may contain oxides of carbon and

nitrogen together with hydrogen fluoride gas, organic amines

and boron compounds.

Protective equipment: A self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing

should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing (See 2.3.1). Sweep up

spill and transfer to suitable labelled containers and

dispose of at a suitable landfill site in accordance with

local regulations. Wash spill site with water.

Handling and storage

Handling: Ensure adequate ventilation, use local exhaust ventilation.

Avoid inhalation and contact with skin. Wear chemical

goggles or safety glasses, disposable latex gloves and

particle removing, air purifying respirators (Wilson 6100M

with dual cartridge filter for dust (north dust filter

N7500-6 TC-21C-151) and organic vapour (Wilson TC-23C-737).

Storage: The substance should be stored in a cool, dark, well

ventilated area, away from reducing agents and strong bases.

Containers should be weather pack II fibre drums with hot

melt binder (multilayer high density polyethylene fibre).

Transport: The substance should be transported in sealed, unbreakable
containers which have been secured against falling. The
substance should not be transported with reducing agents or
strong bases.

acid or neutral, but decomposes in aqueous base.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for recycling by a re-fluorination process is

possible. (A623)

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The substance can be dissolved in water and caustic solution

then used to destroy it. Typically, boil an aqueous solution

for 16 hours at 80 degrees C with 1M sodium hydroxide

solution. This gives triethylenediamine, sodium chloride,

sodium tetrafluoroborate and sodium formate. (A632)

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a controlled landfill site is possible. (A650)

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Disposal by incineration at an authorised facility may be

possible. Waste gas treatment to remove oxides of nitrogen

and hydrogen fluoride gas and possibly boron oxide smoke
