experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
from 1997-10-23 to 1997-11-07
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Version / remarks:
The particle size distribution was determined during a GLP conform Acute Inhalation Toxicity Guideline study. Therefore, the results are considered to be reliable.

The size of particle was found in between 6 to 10 microns because 94.90% of the particles were collected at the Effective Cut-off Diameter (particle size 6 to 10 microns). Therefore, it is concluded that almost 95 % of the particles have a diameter above 6 microns.

Conclusions:
The diameter of 94.90 % of the particles is above 6 microns.
Executive summary:

The particle size distribution was determined during a GLP conform acute inhalation toxicity study. The test item was investigated as such. The particle size was determined by using Andersen Personal Cascade Impactor (6 stage). The stages contain precision drilled orifices with a certain diameter. The diameters vary for the different stages. The amount of test item collected at each stage was weighed. The total mass of particles and the per cent mass of particles in each size range were calculated. 0.2 % of the particles have a size range between 0 and 0.6 microns, 0.15 % of the particles have a size range between 0.6 and 1 micron, 1.48 % of the particles have a size range between 1 and 2 micron, 0.2 % of the particles have a size range between 2 and 3.5 micron, 3.02 % of the particles have a size range between 3.5 and 6 micron, 94.90 % of the particles have a size above 6 micron.

Description of key information

The diameter of 94.90 % of the particles is above 6 microns.
