4-       FIRST AID MEASURES

-       After inhalation : Remove to fresh air. Keep patient warm. Seek immediately medical advice.

-       After skin contact : Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with plenty of water

-       After eye contact : Wash immediately with plenty of water for 15 min.

-       After swallowing : Do not make the victim vomit. Do not give anything orally. Alert a physician

-       Instructions for the physician : Treat according to symptoms. Keep the victim under medical surveillance.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: CO2, powder, foam

Special risks : toxic gases when in contact with fire : COx, NOx

Inadvisable media : Do not use water jet

Special protective equipment for fire fighting : Wear a complete protection equipment and a self contained respiratory apparatus

Other information: Cool the vessels in the vicinity with sprayed water

Person related precautionary measures : Avoid contact

Environmental-protection measures: Wear gloves, mask with cartridge (ABP) adapted for chemical uses

Procedures for cleaning / absorption : Keep out of drains, prevent entry in natural environment; Recover with an appropriate material, clean the place with an absorbing product and put the whole in a container. Ventilate the place and wash the spreaded zone.

Handling and storage

HANDLING

Avoid contact with skin.

Avoid exposure to vapors.

Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.

STORAGE

Keep protected from heat, light and moisture in a well-ventilated place.

Store in cardboard drums with polyethylene bags.

Exposure controls / personal protection

EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION

Occupational exposure limit value (in μg / m3) : not available for the product. For MTBE, in France, VLE = 367 mg/m3 = 100 ppm and VME = 183,5 mg/m3 = 50 ppm.

Personal protective equipment :

 Respiratory protection: Dust respirator, Cartridge (ABP) mask or a self contained respiratory apparatus

 Eye protection: Wear appropriate panoramic mask

 Hand protection: Suitable gloves adapted to chemical uses (EN374) : wear neopren gloves, avoid latex, PVC and nitrile gloves.

 Body protection : Minimize exposed skin with appropriate anti-static and hermetic clothing for sampling and special and complete protective suit “Mururoa” with ventilated hooded constant flow for handling.

Industrial hygiene : Wear the protective equipment. Handle under fumehood. Do not eat nor drink at the workplace. Wash hands and face after handling.
