The procedure for the shake flask method, outlined in guideline OECD 105 was followed to determine the water solubility of the test substance.

During the preliminary study, it was observed that the test substance produced a visibly cloudy suspension in water. The suspension could not be removed by filtration or centrifugation. Formation of a suspension is consistent with the chemical nature of the material which contains both polar and non-polar functionalities. Based on experience with waxy-type materials, it was determined that a column elution method to determine water solubility would not be appropriate as these type of materials coat glass beads plugging the column and preventing water circulation. The shake flask method was determined to be the most applicable method for the study.

Two concentrations of test material were evaluated by the OECD 105 procedure: 0.5 mg/L and 0.13 mg/L. At both concentrations, there was visible excess of test material. Based on the visual observations of the test vessels, the solubility of the test material was assessed to be < 0.13 mg/L at 20 deg. C.
