Theselected temperature was selected at the Zündwertprüfer 10-212-000 corresponding to an initial oven temperature of 400 °C. Using a constant heating rate, the subsequent ignition trials were conducted every 20 ± 5 °C. Atmospheric pressure during the pre-test was993.8 mbar.

The ignition trials were conducted at an atmospheric pressure during the trials of 1001.0 mbar. Lowest value of the first test series is 451.45 °C, the drops, which needed, are 5 and the time until the ignition was detected, are 12 seconds.

Lowest value of the third test series is 447.84 °C, the drops, which needed, are 5 and the time until the ignition was detected, are 15 seconds.

 

Result and Validity

The requirements for repeatability of the DIN standard are stated as follows: Three lowest values of the main test have to lie within a range of 5 °C (if auto ignition temperature is below 300 °C) respectively 10 °C (if auto ignition temperature is above 300 °C).

The lowest value of the auto ignition temperature is 448 °C. This value was determined using 5 drops test item. The test item showed auto ignition after 15 seconds. The auto-ignition temperature (result of determination) is the lowest value from the lowest values of the three experiments, rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C. Therefore, the auto ignition temperature is stated as 445 °C.

Validity

In the DIN, the following limits are applied to the range of lowest values which may be used for evaluation:

The three lowest values of the main test lay within a range of 10 °C (as required for auto-ignition temperatures above 300 °C). The largest difference between measuredignitiontemperatures was 3 °C. Thus, the test is considered valid.

Conclusions:
For 1,3-diiodopropane an auto-ignition temperature of 445 °C was determined, experimentally.
Executive summary:

The auto ignition temperature was determined in three independent determinations. A lowest value of the main test of 448 °C was found. Therefore, the auto-ignition temperature according to EU A.15 (rounded down to a whole multiple of 5 °C) of 1,3-Diiodopropane is stated as 445 °C.
