Description of key information

Two published and three unpublished experimental studies are available investigating the acute aquatic toxicity of gasoline samples to fish. In addition an acute LL50 value has been predicted using the PetroTox Model. Experimental values obtained ranged between 5.4 and 68 mg/L and these are supported by the  predicted value of 3.57 mg/L.

Additional information

Acute aquatic toxicity tests with various samples of gasoline, using water accommodated or water soluble fractions in either close or open vessels, gave LL50 values in the range 5.4 - 68 mg/L. In the key study the LL50 was 11 mg/L. These results are also supported by PetroTox modelling which gave a predicted value of 3.57 mg/L. Modelling is considered to be more conservative than experimental data.
