Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
28 January 2019
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test: The temperature of the phase transition from frozen solid to liquid state is determined using a Fisher-Johns Type Melting Point Apparatus.
- Short description of test conditions: The sample material was frozen in a -90°C freezer. A quantity of frozen material was placed on the heating stage of the apparatus. The sample was covered using a thin glass plate and the assembly was slowly heated. The melting point was reached when small drops of liquid appeared on the glass cover. At this point a temperature reading was taken on the electronic thermometer this temperature is known as the freezing point.
- Parameters analysed / observed: Freezing point
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: Melting/Freezing Point Determination Using Fisher-Johns Type Melting Point Apparatus
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
3 °C
Atm. press.:
101.325 kPa
Conclusions:
The average freezing point of the Reaction Mass of 2-propenoic acid, 2-methyl-, 2 dodecylhexadecyl ester and 2-propenoic acid, 2methyl-, 2-tetradecyloctadecyl ester was found to be at 3°C.
Executive summary:

An experiment was performed using Fisher-Johns type melting point apparatus to determine the freezing point of Reaction Mass of 2-propenoic acid, 2-methyl-, 2 dodecylhexadecyl ester and 2-propenoic acid, 2methyl-, 2-tetradecyloctadecyl ester. The average freezing point of three test runs of Reaction Mass of 2-propenoic acid, 2-methyl-, 2 dodecylhexadecyl ester and 2-propenoic acid, 2methyl-, 2-tetradecyloctadecyl ester was found to be 3°C.
