Key result
Water solubility:
ca. 0.023 mg/L
Conc. based on:
test mat. (dissolved fraction)
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
>= 7 - <= 7.2
Conclusions:
The slow-stirring flask method was applied for the determination of the water solubility and the ISO-medium solubility of 4,4'-(4-methylpentane-2,2-diyl)bis((heptyloxy)benzene).
The water solubility of the test item at 20°C was < 0.023 mg/L. The pH of the aqueous samples was between 7.0 – 7.2.
Executive summary:

Two methods are available for the determination of the water solubility of a liquid test item. Both methods are based on the flask method in which the mass concentration of the test item in aqueous solutions saturated with the test item is determined after stirring or shaking at a specific temperature for a specific period of time.

Flask method

For test items with a water solubility of ≥ 10-2 g/L the vessels will be shaken or stirred at a speed of > 100 rpm.

Slow-stirring Flask Method

For test items with a water solubility of<10-2g/L additional care must be taken to avoid intensive mixing of the test item with the water phase and slow-stirring at a stirring speed of≤ 100 rpm will be applied.

A preliminary test was carried out as a range-finding test prior to performance of the main study.
