Description of key information

The substance has been assessed in two studies with human volunteers and in none of the volunteers exposed significant skin irritation was observed. When tested for eye irritation in rabbits, redness was observed, but as only 0.625% test substance in water was applied, it is concluded that the substance as such shall be considered as an eye irritant, category 2.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance was investigated for skin irritation/corrosion and was found not being irritant to human skin. In a study to investigate eye-irritation/damage the scores rad in the study did not require classification for eye-irritation when compared with criteria as laid out in GHS/CLP. However, the concentration tested was only 0.625% in water and scores for redness were only slightly below the classification threshold, but fully reversible. Thus it is decided to not classify the substance for skin irritation/corrosion, but to classify the substance as an eye irritant, Category 2 according to CLP (Regulation EC No. 1272/2008).
