Description of key information

Key, Short-term toxicity to fish, static, closed, OECD 203, GLP: LC50(96h) = 4.53 mg/L for zebrafish (Danio rerio) based on mortality

Key, Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, static, closed, OECD 202, GLP: EC50(48h) = 1.2 mg/L for Daphnia magna based on immobilisation

Key, Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria, static, closed, OECD 201, GLP: ErC50(72h) = 0.75 mg/L and NOEC (72h) = 0.24 mg/L for the freshwater green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus based on growth inhibition

Key, Toxicity to microorganisms, respiration inhibition, static, open, OECD 209, GLP: EC50(3h) > 1000 mg/L nominal for domestic, activated sludge

Additional information

Based on the obtained results on short-term toxicity to the freshwater fish Danio rerio and the aquatic invertebrate Daphnia magna as well as the results on toxicity to the freswater green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus and to activated sludge microorganisms, algae are considered to be the most sensitive organism with an 72 h EC50 < 1 mg/L. Therefore the test material has to be classified as acutely toxic to the aquatic environment. As the test material is not readily biodegradable and it has a log Pow of 4.0, the test item is suspected to accumulate in the environment revealing long lasting effects (chronic). Hence, the test material is classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment as Acute 1 ( H400: Very toxic to aquatic life) and Chronic 1 ( H410: Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and amendments.
