Hydrogen iodide is extremely soluble in water: at 10 °C, 1 litre of water absorbs 425 litres (~15 mol) of hydrogen iodide gas from atmospheric pressure (corresponding to a molar ratio of HI: H2O of about 1 : 4). The azeotropic mixture of HI and H2O contains 56.7 wt.% HI and 43.3 wt.% H2O.
