Biodegradation of the test substance was investigated in a screening test (OECD 301 F) and additional higher tier tests in water/sediment systems and soil (OECD 308, OECD 307). 

The substance is not readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria (4% biodegradation after 28 d (OECD 301 F).

Two studies determined the route and rate of degradation of the test substance according to OECD 308 and GLP in the dark at a test temperature of 20±2°C under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, respectively.

In all aquatic sediment test systems, the test substance dissipated gradually from the water phase through partitioning into the sediment. No significant degradation products were observed in the surface water or the sediment although an increase in the non-extractable residues indicated that the test substance was incorporated into the sediment organic fraction. The first-order DT50 value for degradation in the water phase, and total system was > 365 days.

The study testing the biodegradation of the test substance in soil was performed according to OECD 307 with three soils of varying physiochemical characteristics (sandy loam, silty clay, clay loam) in the dark under aerobic conditions at a temperature of 20°C for 120 days. The DT50 values for the test substance calculated using simple first order kinetics are 433, 120 and 126 days.
