First-aid measures

Special instructions:

Helpers should ensure their own protection.

Inhalation:

IF INHALED: If breathing is difficult, remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. If appropiate, give artificial respiration or oxygen. If experiencing respiratory symptoms, call a poison center or doctor/phycscian.

Skin contact:

Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. IF ON SKIN: Wash with soap and water.

Eye contact:

IF IN EYES: Rinse continuously with water for several minutes. Get medical advice/attention.

Ingestion:

Rinse mouth. If the patient is concious, give plenty of water (2-4 glasses). Do NOT induce vomiting. Get medical advice/attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:

Water spray

Powder

Foam

Carbon dioxide

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

May emit toxic fumes of oxides of carbon during heating or fire

May emit toxic fumes of hydrogen chloride during heating or fire

May emit toxic fumes of hydrogen fluoride during heating or fire

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

Isolating breathing apparatus eg. compressed breathing apparatus and protective clothing.

Other instructions:

The vapour is heavier than air and spreads

along the ground, therefore remote ignition is possible. Cool fire exposed containers with water jet.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Use personal protective equipment as required.Keep unprotected persons out of danger area.

Provide sufficient ventilation.

Environmental precautions:

Do not put into water system, drain or soil.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Absorb spillage with e.g. earth, sand or inert absorbent material.

Collect up into tightly sealable containers for disposal.

Wash spill site after material pick-up is complete.

Handling and storage

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 18(4) for transported isolated intermediates. Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at the manufacturing site.

Precautions for safe handling:

Handle in well-ventilated space.

Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.

Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing.

Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces - No smoking.

Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Exposure controls / personal protection

This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 18(4) for transported isolated intermediates. Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at the manufacturing site.

If exposure is possible:

Appropriate engineering controls:

Provide sufficient ventilation (local exhaust).

Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.

Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing.

Isolate from ignition sources.

Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces - No smoking.

Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

Respiratory protection:

Use respirator , filtration ABEK2-P3. In laboratories work in fume hood or under dust control

hood.

See particular department's regulations of protection.

Hand protection:

Use protective gloves (e.g. nitrile or neopren gloves).

Eye protection:

Use protective goggles.

Skin protection:

Wear protective clothing.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable when stored and handled according to instructions of use.

Reactivity: Decomposes on contact with strong oxidants, bases and sodium dimethyl sulphate.

Incompatible materials:

Strong oxidants

Bases

Sodium dimethyl sulphate

Possibility of hazardous reactions:

Extremely exothermic reaction with sodium dimethyl sulphinate.

Disposal considerations

Chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber is the recommended method of disposal for this material. Observe all local and national regulations when disposing of this material.
