Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The short-term toxicity of [ω-hydroxy-C16 (saturated and unsaturated) and C16 (unsaturated)] fatty acids to aquatic organisms was prodicted using two QSAR models for both aquatic plants (algae) and aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia). The constituents queried account for more than 75% of the total UVCB composition. Numerous constituents are predicted to demonstrate toxicity at concentrations near or above their solubility limit, indicating that acute toxicity endpoints predicted by the models may not be observable under relevant environmental conditions. The most conservative relevant acute toxicity prediction of any individual constituent was generally adopted as each endpoint value. These predicted aquatic toxicity endpoint values were each >1mg/L and <10mg/L. The substance meets the Category 2 classification criteria for short-term aquatic toxicity according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) of the United Nations (2015) (including all amendments). The substance is also predicted to be readily biodegradable therefore no long-term (chronic) aquatic hazards are expected.
